what a day.

today was the definition of not great.

I was about to get in the shower when my phone rang.  It was my neighbor calling to tell me that my brother was having a seizure on the driveway. I rushed outside to find him completely unresponsive and multiple neighbors surrounding him looking horrified.  Piecing together the story from different people I gathered that he was riding his bike when his seizure started.  He fell and hit his head on the concrete where he had a huge gash. One neighbor was on the phone with 911 and a few minutes later an ambulance arrived, followed by a firetruck, followed by two cop cars, and finally the K-9 unit.  There was no shortage of personnel there.  The EMTs attempted to put a neck brace on him which freaked the poor kid out.  {After a seizure, Cayden doesn't know where he is or what has happened so having a bunch of people touching him and poking him didn't go over well.}  It took a sedative and four paramedics to strap him down to a board and get a neck brace on him.

During this, I was being bombarded with questions by a very good looking paramedic with a mustache, is he a diabetic, history of strokes, any allergies, medication?  Too bad I had no make up on, no bra and my hair looked wet because it was soo greasy :(

After what seemed like a lifetime he was loaded in the ambulance and headed to the ER.  I was told to drive separate so I ran downstairs put on a bra and grabbed some shoes. I met my mom and dad at the hospital where Cayden was.  The doctor ordered a CAT scan to make sure that his head was okay from his fall.  Three hours later he was cleared to go home, thankfully everything was okay:)

I am so grateful for the neighbors and caring friends who rushed to Cayden's aid.  I can only hope as he goes away to college that he will be surrounded by people who are willing to help keep him safe.  I love this kid more than anything I want for him to be able to live a normal life without worrying about seizures.
 I hate epilepsy.
